Civil Engineering & Management?

I’m 16, living in London and doing my AS Levels currently and I have yet to decide what I am going to apply for at University!

What I really want to do is what my Grandfather did though i am not sure what exactly you would call it – He basically owned his own company that carried out many construction projects all across his country – from this he had become very wealthy and senior, his actual qualifications were in accountancy yet what he did wouldnt be considered as such, I was thinking it as more of contracting? What would you think? I feel that I should apply for Civil Engineering or Engineering Science and maybe acquire some managerial qualifications after… Please if anyone could shine some light on this.

Yes, what he did was contracting and he would be considered a contractor. Engineering is fine but it’s a lot of work if you don’t intend to follow it through in your professional career. If you can, speak to your grandfather or your parents about what to do. Your school advisor should also be useful for this sort of question. Consider majoring in business and minoring in something related to the specific type of business you intend to practice. In this case, minor in engineering and major in business.
