Using my employers dumpster okay?

Recently trash collection in my area ended and the new costs for trash collection in my area have risen significantly

My employer has a Waste Management contract but rarely fills its dumpsters to full. They told me I can dump my trash in their dumpster because they have space in the dumpster and it won’t cost them anymore money.

They would like to offer this to all employees (6-7) who would cancel their trash service in town (We all use WM, Eagle Waste, or Violia) and use our companies dumpsters.

Are there any issues with this? Am I obligated to purchase my own service? Is my employer obligated to only use their dumpsters for company trash? By using my employers garbage service aren’t I robing the trash company of money they could make on me personally (If I had my own service contract with them)?

It is perfectly okay ethically, if a little inconvenient in the practical sense. You can consider it an extension of fringe benefits. Your employer pays for collection from the dumpster, so they "own" the space and can do with it as they will. And you are certainly not "robbing" the trash company, since you have no service contract with them and they do not own either your trash nor the rights to collect it.

There’s nothing wrong with using your employers dumpster as long as they say it’s okay. You aren’t robbing the trash collectors of anything. You are not required by law to use the trash collection service, so if you can dispose of your own trash without it, go for it.

There is nothing wrong with using the employer’s dumpster, as long as the employer has said that this is OK. Whether or not you choose to employ a trash collection company or not is a personal decision, much like choosing whether or not to have a bottled water delivery service at your home instead of using tap water. If you choose not to, you haven’t taken anything from the company you are not using, you’ve just chosen not to use their services. Your employers are paying for a service that they are not fully utilizing. Personally, I think it’s a great perk to be offered to employees (and my employers allow me to do the same).

You are not obligated by any law to use any trash company. If your employer is "offering" you use of their trash bin for free then by all means take it if it isn’t too big of an inconvenience for to to take your trash there once a week. The money saved you could consider a "bonus" from you boss. Just be sure the either send an EM or Thank You card to your boss so that they know that you truly do appreciate what they are doing.
    Peace & Love :)

If your employer said you can dump whatever you want in it, go for it. They are the ones paying for that trash can. Think about it. If you bring in a sandwich in a ziplock bag and throw the bag away, aren’t you really throwing your own trash away in their trash can? Throwing full trash bags is just on a larger scale.

Never feel bad for "robbing" someone of money they could make on you personally. It is a business. That’s all there is to it. Besides, if their prices are skyrocketing, they’ll make it up with whomever else they are price gouging.

By the way, you are actually helping the company because they are wasting money when their dumpster isn’t full.
