How is I.T. job sector doing in Darwin, N.T., Australia?

I am interested in spending some time in Darwin (three months to several years) and I would like to know how is its I.T. job sector doing? I understand that Darwin is not Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane when it comes to big money in I.T., as well as number of employers and opportunities, but I thought I would ask anyway. Is there a chance to get an I.T. job or is it too difficult? I also understand that salaries are most likely (much?) lower than in other capital cities of Australia, but I am fine with that. I have about 10 years of experience in network and systems administration and project management and over the years I worked with variety of platforms and environments. Also, what is the possibility of getting a short term contract? (say three months?). I am not after big salary (this time), but after living in Darwin.

I will inquire with job agencies in Darwin shortly, but I also would like to hear your experience and feedback.

Thank you all!

You will need to be work papers, and that will be difficult now, unless you have some degrees – the technical experience without certifications don't go too far when you're submitting paperwork with the government. Quite a bit of the work is being outsourced to India, Korea and other asian countries, so I think it will be hard to get a 3 month stint – by the time they bring you across and settled your contract would be over.

Is this a management style or am I about to lose my job?
