My contract obligations and extra job?

Hi, I’m working in a small family-owned company of which the management is not entirely honest with their employees.

Last week my boss offered me an extra job, a side project – BUT in my contract there’s a clause that I cannot be engaged in any competitive activity and especially in the field in which my company operates.

I would love to agree to get som extra cash but – HOW CAN I PROTECT MYSELF against any legal claims later? Is it a trap? Is he going to set me up? The project will be develop for another company dealing with the same field, of which the managing director is my boss’ business partner.

Is it a trap?

If you are really interested in pursuing this then ask your boss to get the company to sign a waiver of your non-competition covenant for the purposes of taking the second job. Without the waiver, you cannot protect yourself.
