Contract Management

I am heavily considering quitting my current job for many reasons including poor management, horrible environment, and ultimately lacking and outdated experiences. I actually turn 18 in a few weeks and go to College. I have my own business and the job I am quitting is actually basically a very long "contract" where I was treated as an employee — but my reasons are much greater than that!

Regardless, I am in website/software development and I am just wondering, where do people go/how do you start finding contracts for possible future jobs(Such as a website for a business, etc). I have always wondered where contracts are produced?! How does one go about casually obtaining or even getting close to obtaining a contract with a company (especially when you are a startup company no one knows exists!).
